Montezuma Waterfalls

Definitely one of Montezumas most beautiful spots. There are three falls, it depends on how much one wants to hike. To get to the second and third waterfall there is a pretty steep hill you have to climb, but it is real fun if you are up to it. The first waterfall is the biggest one and also has the biggest pool so don’t forget to bring you swim suit because you will be hot and there is nothing better than cooling of in the fresh water.

Playa Grande

Playa Grande is named after its large size. It is a beautiful long beach where you can only get by foot. It’s an about 30min walk, you will find yourself on a deserted, huge beach. Playa Grande is definitely a very special place also one of the best spots to surf in Montezuma. You will be surrounded by water, beach, jungle and lots of monkeys. We always recommend visiting playa Grande during low tide. Bring your water and snacks, and enjoy your time!

Piedra Colorada

Piedra Colorada is a little beach half way between Montezuma and playa Grande. It has a little river with a waterfall, so it perfect for a little cool of on your way to playa Grande. It’s also a really nice spot for kids. It is important to clarify that ocean at piedra colorada it is not good for swimming, so please just enjoy the river!

ASVO

Vivero ASVO, criadero de tortugas

ASVO is a non-profit organization located on the Montezuma beach that helps sea turtles. The organization takes care of the turtle eggs after they are laid, so no predators (mostly human but also animals) can get to them. So from July to December they almost daily release the baby turtles to the ocean and you can stop by and watch. It’s a beautiful experience for all ages!!! Please don’t forget to leave them a tip…

Las Manchas

Las Manchas is a beautiful little white sand beach, almost Mediterranean style, with it pearl white sand and crystal blue water Perfect little spot to spend your afternoon since it is only a 3 min drive out of town.

Isla Cabuya

Cabuya is a little fisherman town just 7km from Montezuma. There you can visit the famous Cabuya Island that is dedicated to a cemetery. During low tide you can take an about 15 min walk and cross from the beach to the enchanting little island and see a one of a kind cemetery. Remember to check the tide before going, and please be always respectful with the space.

Cabo Blanco

Costa Rica’s first Absolute Natural Reserve, and inspiration for the book and the movie Jurassic Park, is a beautiful place to visit if you are a nature lover. Also perfect is you like to hike. The main trail to the beach will take you for about two hours through breathtaking scenery where you can see all kinds of wildlife. Please be aware that the earlier you go, the more wildlife you will be able to see. Proper shoe wear is a must, also bring water and snack if you are planning on spending the day.
